Makiki New Build
Although our Mikiki custom home build was one of our early on projects many years ago, it’s still a strong contender for being one of our favorites. Our client had built the original home with her makuakane 60+ years ago and it held a special place in her heart. That emotion she brought to the design meeting’s really inspired us to think outside of the box to create a new masterpiece, that would not only embrace the new build but would also make her makuakane proud. We embraced the concept of “reclaiming” the existing materials instead of letting perfectly good material fill our landfills. We were able to reclaim redwood siding, 1/4” paneling + interior doors. These materials were then used throughout miscellaneous areas on the interior.
The exterior custom rain screen, haiku ceiling fans, whole house fan, and natural CMU crawl space cooling system were able to keep the new home cooler, even without the support of any air conditioners, in an environmentally friendly way. Another prominent feature are the rain hogs, which allow our client to catch and store rainwater for watering plants and grass.
